The Ronald McDonald House Charities® Greater Western Sydney Chapter offers support and accommodation to seriously ill children receiving vital hospital treatment and their families at Ronald McDonald House Westmead, and a place of respite for families at Nepean Hospital through the Ronald McDonald Family Room Nepean. Ronald McDonald House Westmead is a 60-room "home away from home" for families from rural NSW, interstate or overseas while their child is treated at the Children's Hospital at Westmead. This can be a period of days, or weeks, at times even a year, and the staff and volunteers at the House ensure that families are given the support and homely environment they need to support their child's treatment and recovery. At the Ronald McDonald Family Room Nepean, families with children being treated in the NICU can take a break, have a cuppa, shower, or heat a meal up in the Family Room’s warm, homely environment seven days per week, 24 hours a day. The Greater Western Sydney Chapter also provides education services that allow children to remain connected to their schooling while they are spending long periods of time away from home and away from their classroom. This includes school holiday activities and and the “Homework Heroes" program run in the House’s dedicated Learning Centre, as well as tutoring support for students, and resources for teachers who have students in their classes with serious illnesses or injuries. The Greater Western Sydney Chapter is a not-for-profit organisation, and relies heavily on support from individual, community and corporate groups to maintain our operations and continue providing assistance to seriously ill children and their families.
