Hyperloop UPV is a student team from the Universitat Politécnica de València (UPV) with the aim of constructing a functional prototype of a complete Hyperloop system and to bring the transportation of the future closer to reality. Hyperloop UPV started in October 2015. Five students from UPV decided to participate in the Hyperloop Design Weekend Competition organised by SpaceX in Texas in January 2016. In this competition a jury composed of Tesla and SpaceX experts awarded Hyperloop UPV the Best Overall Concept Design and Best Propulsion System. The design that Hyperloop UPV proposed was the only one which was able to levitate by attraction to the top of the tube, which meant significantly lowering the infrastructure costs. In August 2017, the UPV team was ranked among the top 10 ‘pods’ against more than 300 other universities in the Hyperloop Pod Competition II in Los Angeles, California. In July 2018, Hyperloop UPV competed against 17 classified universities and was ranked, for the second year in a row, among the top 10 ‘pods’ of the Hyperloop Pod Competition III, occupying the eighth position. The Valentia prototype caused admiration among engineers for its innovative design. This year’s team is composed of 40 brilliant and highly motivated students helped out by professors from many departments who act as advisors. SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition IV will be held in summer 2019 and the team is working hard in designing and constructing a new functional prototype. This new prototype uses a disruptive design which the team hopes will ensure they win the competition when they return to California.
