Jozi Cats Rugby Club
www.jozicats.co.zaThe Jozi Cats is a fully inclusive gay, straight and or bisexual full Contact Rugby and Touch Rugby team from Johannesburg, South Africa. The aim of the Jozi Cats is primarily to provide the opportunity for gay, straight and bisexual men and woman to play and enjoy ever improving standards of rugby. As Africa’s first competitive gay inclusive rugby team, our mission is to assert the value of gay and bisexual rugby players as competitive sportsmen to the rugby community. This will be demonstrated through our progress, inclusive environment and results. As an alternate space for the greater LGBTI community, we will provide a space for competitive social touch rugby by our participation in year-round touch rugby leagues. We are currently in the third season of touch rugby league and this has been very well received by our players. It is also a great introduction to rugby without fear of contact or injury considering that most of our team are new to rugby. Our club aims to be a role model to the gay community and a successful example of friendly cohabitation between people of different sexual orientations of different racial and cultural backgrounds (though we never ask players to openly identify their sexual orientation)
