The modern world is volatile, uncertain, complex & ambiguous. Change happens frequently & rapidly. Our attention is pulled in a thousand directions. Task lists are never ending. Inbox zero is an unreachable dream. There’s never enough time. As technology shapes the contours of our personal & professional lives, forces like capitalism, consumerism, hyper-individualism, paternalism, & white supremacy shape our response to this landscape. They condition us to respond to change by staying busy & productive, figuring it out & optimizing, doing, making, & achieving more, getting it right, & avoiding failure. Even if you are highly aware & skilled, it’s still easy to get caught up in the modern day storm & to lose your equanimity, sense of self & connection to others. So many of us are coping our way through life - rest & play deficient, disconnected from our physical bodies, emotionally reactive, spiritually malnourished, hustling in silos for our worth, trying to keep all the balls in the air…& leading families, teams, and organizations from this state of being. It’s exhausting & rarely leads to the experience & results we crave & that our society needs to be more just, equitable & sustainable. In the words of Audre Lorde, “The master’s tools will never dismantle the master’s house.” We won’t change our experience by making more task lists, setting bigger goals, drafting more complicated plans, & working harder. In our work together, we come home to ancient wisdom in a modern world. We unlearn the master’s tools & relearn the power of: Presence first Working emergently Cultivating discernment Observing & inquiring Exploring, discovering, & adapting Holding & acting on multiple truths Listening to the ecosystem & beyond the senses Honoring our inner knowing & tapping into the wisdom of our lineage I sail alongside of you as you discern for yourself what it means to be in relationship with the world as it is while creating the world as you aspire for it to be.
