Waya
www.getwaya.comIn 2019, it was estimated that over 6% of U.S. households, or a total of 14.1 million American adults, are unbanked, according to a Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) survey. In regions where economic inequality and other types of structural injustice are pervasive, the percentage of unbanked persons is still relatively high, notwithstanding recent declines. The ratio of unbanked households among Black (16.9%) compared to White (3%) is almost five times greater. The amount of an individual's income is the most accurate predictor of whether or not they have a bank account. While just 2.4% of households with earnings above $30,000 lack a bank account, 19% of those with incomes below $30,000 do not. Due to fees, minimum deposit requirements, and other up-front expenditures, many people who may benefit from banking services cannot do so because they are just out of reach financially. GetWaya addresses the need for financial inclusion for all American adults, especially African Immigrants who are the most deprived of financial services. Waya, based in the United States and Kenya, aspires to digitize banking for the underserved and unbanked people worldwide and provide our community with a quick, easy, and inexpensive method to save, spend, get paid, and pay bills wherever they live and work. Our system is intended to assist clients in expanding their financial lives, establishing credit safely, and acquiring financial stability. We believe in a financially inclusive future in which everyone has the opportunity to accumulate wealth. We value financial inclusion because we understand how difficult it is for migratory employees to live in another country. For this reason, Waya exists to fill the void left by traditional banks for vulnerable migrant workers.
