Verkehrs Industrie Systeme GmbH, Halberstadt (VIS), started in 2002 as a privatized workshop facility formerly owned by Deutsche Bahn AG. The site is a historic workshop which was constantly developed to become a manufacturing site for coaches in the former GDR. More than 6.000 coaches were supplied to the domestic market until re-unification of Germany. Since re-unification the site ran massive modernization programmes and developing cab-coaches for Deutsche Bahn AG. Since take-over by Zeppenfeld Industry Group, VIS maintained a high level of expertise completing a vast amount of projects in new-build, modernization and retro-fit programmes. Since 2005 VIS holds one of the very few Full Service Maintenance contracts in Germany. VIS was contracted to take care of the "HarzElbeExpress" fleet, operated by Veolia. This contract includes preventive and corrective maintenance plus washing ans servicing the trains prior to passenger service. Being non-exclusive to any party, VIS is open to address any rolling stock project throughout Europe and Overseas. VIS already preovides international services, i.e. in Finland or Holland.
