www.jikkou.capractice - performance - execution - realisation - implementation As a consultant, I provide in-depth analysis of a client’s organisation and environment in regard to his/her projects and goals. These analysis can be provided in the form of detailed reports and/or advises as to the actions to be taken to solve problems, limit risk and increase performance. As a trainer, I build and drive a training course so that an individual or a team learns the necessary knowledge and knowhow to accomplish a project. The course is usually made of learning cycles, mixing theory and practice with a clear direction and within a balanced timing, with a set of learning objectives, each of which is specific, task oriented and measurable. Even though a trainer must show leadership and inspire the learners throughout the course, this is yet a top-down approach, where the learners learn from the teacher, and better fits situations where the learners are fairly new to the subject. Even though I may have a good experience and deep technical knowledge about the client’s subject, in a coaching relationship, only the client is known as the subject matter expert. As a coach, I will listen to the client and provide timely feedback only to help the client widen his/her perspectives and find his/her own solutions. When it comes to acquiring technical knowledge and knowhow for an ongoing project, a team (or an individual) of intermediate or advanced level will find it hard to get in a room with a “teacher" only to learn how to (better) do the job on a hypothetical sample project. In this kind of scenarios, as a coach, I organise activities around the client’s projects and the skills the team is to acquire, so that the participant(s) learn by themselves throughout the sessions, and can yet turn to my expertise. In these scenarios, I will "switch hats” between “coach" and “consultant/trainer” throughout the activities.
