museoenergiaripi.spadamar.comAt the Energy Museum, citizens, students and scholars find insights over the science, the technology, and the environmental aspects related to the history and the present of energy resources, with special focus on petroleum. The district of Ripi since 1868 hosted one of the first petroleum fields of Italy, which was producing crude until 2014. Goal of the museum is the preservation of the memory and the divulgation of more than 150 years for practices, technologies and know how developed in this territory, which attracted the interest of Italian and foreigner companies and scientists. Owned by the Municipality of Ripi and coordinated by the city Bureau of Culture and Education, the Energy Museum is directed since its opening by Federico Varazi, geologist and professional with 25-year experience in museums and cultural communication management. On the 182 petroleum history-oriented museums open in the world, Ripi is one of the few featuring a modern audio-visual display space, learning labs, popular science educational programs, and a permanent outdoor display of the original petroleum production installation (called The Petroleum Path) survived in the past decades. The Museum established recently an interdisciplinary Scientific Committee for the study of the historical heritage and the geological aspect. The members are Roberto Bencini (petroleum geologist and expert in CO2 sequestration), Elio Bianchi (structural geologist), Francesco Gerali (petroleum historian, IEEE History Center, NJ), Lorenzo Lipparini (petroleum geologist, University “La Sapienza”, Rome), and Federico Varazi (geologist and museum director). Aim of the Committee is the production of original research materials, articles on peer reviewed journals, and conference presentations.
