Chromosome Apparel
www.chromosomeapparel.comWe use style as a means to unearth the beauty of real human beings in all our variations, as we remove stigmas attached to disability, mental health, addictions, size & gender. We are committed to the full inclusion of marginalized people both locally and globally - a commitment embedded in each choice we make as a company. Visit our website where you will: learn more about our ethically sourced, sensory-conscious clothing and a textile partner committed to inclusion for marginalized people in Nepal; learn about Neurodiversity, the Social Model of Disability, Addictions, Mental Health, and Poverty; meet Inclusion Change Makers; discover marginalized artisans and entrepreneurs and the opportunity to shop for nutritional and other items for people living on insufficient incomes. Our gender-neutral styles, patterns and sizing are intentional and consistent between our Little and Big sizes. We recognize that not all adults are big and not all children fit small sizes. While our textile manufacturing partner does not currently have access to expensive seamless technology, they have worked with us to make our clothing sensory conscious: using comfortable material, the softest threats available, tagless inside labels, cuff seams sewn on the outside of the shirt rather than the inside, and the use of block print over embroidery for our logo and other print. Our use of the terms Big and Little for sizing is our way to re-imagine size and reinforce body positivity. They reflect large and small frames respectively. We strive to eliminate the idea of "the perfect body" pushed by an elitist fashion industry. We add messages to our clothing (and advertising) to support Pride in Neurodivergent and Disabled communities and to make allies just a little easier to spot in a crowd. We operate on on the territory of the Kwantlen, Katzie, Matsqui, and Semiahmoo Nations.
