Young writers won’t always be saved by the spell checker. Sometimes, it takes an experienced eye to see where the gremlins are. And, while good copy doesn’t always call for the Queen’s English, it’s handy to know where the apostrophes go. Paul Dent has over 30 years’ experience as a writer and editor. His accolades include three Finalist awards at The International Advertising Festival of New York, and he is the winner of a Global Award for Healthcare Communications. Raised and educated in Albury, Paul worked as a copywriter on regional and agricultural accounts with local advertising agency, Cahill Media, before moving to Sydney in 1989 to further his career. Having worked on staff as a senior writer and associate creative director with various Sydney agencies, he went on to become one of the city’s most highly regarded freelancers, writing for a variety of blue-chip brands including BHP, Contiki, MasterCard and many more. In more recent times, Paul's passion for the craft has drawn him into the field of development and governmental communications, where he is able to demonstrate his capacity for translating technical or bureaucratic language into plain, accessible English. He now enjoys the quiet lifestyle in his hometown of Albury, but continues to write and edit for clients along the eastern seaboard of Australia, as well as international organisations headquartered abroad.
