Jumirim had its initial mark in 1886, with the arrival of the Sorocabana railway line and construction of the station, on the lands of Fazenda Barreiro. At first the line should pass through the lands of Fazenda Jurumirim, a name given to it due to the small waterfall there. But a small change in the design of the railroad layout changed the location of the station to where today Manoel Novaes street is installed. The municipality was founded by Manoel Novaes, known at the time as Manecão, a Portuguese by birth who donated the strip of land, in favor of the road where the railway station should be. In honor of its founder, the city's main street takes its name. On May 21, 1995, a referendum made through electronic voting - 1st experience of the new way of voting in the State - marked the victory of the dream of the people of Jumirim. Despite the victory, the fight still continued and on December 7, 1995, the Assembly in an extraordinary session approved Bill No. 813, favorable to the creation of the municipality. On December 27, 1995, Governor Mário Covas signed Law 9330, creating the municipality of Jumirim. District of Tietê until 1995, Jumirim achieved its longed-for emancipation. In January 1997, Mr. Benedito Tadeu Fávero took office as the first mayor elected by the vote of the people. With a subtropical climate and mountainous topography, Jumirim is located on the spike between the Tietê and Sorocaba Rivers.
