The grid needs better energy storage; clean, cheap, carbon-free, low in water use, with non-toxic end-of-life. That technology is available, 85% proven, and a commercialization path exists but customers & investors are the key. The state-of-the-art for long duration energy storage is currently between pumped hydro, thermal, and CAES. Each of these can be competitive on a site-specific basis and a mix of these is appropriate for the grid. CAES is at a special place because with proper commercialization it stands to significantly bolster the grid in many of the markets where renewable deployment threatens gird stability. Li-ion and other battery technologies are shorter duration and higher end of life cost alternatives. Commercial carbon-free CAES, licensed by RESC, offers opportunities for deployment across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Australia; the opportunities, are global. This technology conserves renewable power and is a de-carbonization solution that we are at the threshold of embracing. We see transformative opportunities in markets where: (1) energy storage mandates are in effect such as NY and AZ, (2) utilities are adding energy storage (UT, MI, VA, WY and CA) in their integrated resource planning and RFP's, (3) RESC’s sites offer competitive advantage as in Texas and Louisiana, (4) a utility serves to be a uniquely appropriate potential customer as in AL where the first American CAES site operates, (5) high wind and solar renewable energy penetration has resulted in a group of power producers who are either curtailed or are facing significant revenue losses due to covariance, (6) and computer data center operators who are seeking 24/7 coincident green and power.
