Exam Star®
www.examstar.org.ukABOUT EXAM STAR Exam Star® is a social enterprise based in the London borough of Southwark. It was created by Lydie Gahoua, a lower income mum passionate about helping other lower income parents access the additional learning support their children need. This stems from Lydie's personal struggle supporting her son’s education. Whilst in school, Daniel had additional learning needs and, unfortunately, Lydie's family could not afford the extra learning support Daniel desperately needed to pass his GCSE’s. This led to the launch of the social enterprise. PRIVATE TUTORING IS UNFAIR A growing number of parents and guardians are paying for children as young as four to receive additional tuition. Research show that unlike their well-off peers, many children from lower income families are unable to afford the cost of private tuition which averages £25 per hour in London. This exacerbates education inequalities and contributes to widening the attainment gap. EXAM STAR LEVELLING THE PLAYING FIELD Unlike other tuition organisations, Exam Star’s private tuition is genuinely affordable and personalised. Compassion, equality, and independence are among our core values. We want to inspire our students and help them gain confidence and self-esteem so that they can maximise their potential and achieve greater success in school and in the workplace. We pair children and young people with tutors, and they learn in weekly personalised online tutorials which cater to their specific learning needs. We are currently in partnership with Southwark Council and DofE.
