The site provides the company with a manufacturing workshop and machine shop, providing easy access for repairs and surveys for all port users. The SMS Group began 2018 with a period of significant expansion, acquiring a dry-dock and marine / machine workshops business in Lowestoft. Coupled with the addition of marine workshops in Poole, Avonmouth, Portsmouth, Devonport and Dover to compliment the existing facilities at Southampton and the dry-dock at Shoreham. The SMS Group thereafter became the largest independent ship repair business in the UK; 8 owned locations (adding Glasgow in 2020) providing 24/7/365 support.
