The Open Hybrid LabFactory (OHLF) in Wolfsburg enables the research and development of innovative lightweight construction concepts for the coming vehicle generations and other mobility carriers. The OHLF is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the funding initiative "Research Campus - Public-Private Partnership for Innovation". The particular strength of the research factory is based on combined production technologies and the use of multi-material for function integrated components as well as the complete component consideration over the entire product life cycle; from conceptual design, textile semi-finished and organic sheet production as well as manufacturing processes, to life cycle design & engineering. Comprehensive analysis and extensive testing technology are available to characterize the production steps and multi-material systems. In addition to topics relating to technological development and economic efficiency, issues relating to sustainability and CO2 emissions are also in a strong interest. At the interface between science and industry, the OHLF has created a unique infrastructure and plant technology: a research factory with pilot plants, laboratories, integrated project house and office space, where partners from different organizations come together in close cooperation.
