Warts and All Theatre started small. Aiming to provoke the artist in everyone, the company initially ran a few acting programmes and performances in Northampton, with the intention of growing the programme to schools and other locations in the Midlands. Since then, participation has grown five-fold. Rapidly, Warts and All Theatre has become the recognised young person’s theatre company in Northampton, Coventry and Wellingborough and it now has a growing team with a new residency at Delapre Abbey in Northampton. And yet, despite its rapid growth, at its heart it has stayed the same organisation, one that believes that through theatre, everyone should be given the chance to speak their truth in a fair and open environment where communities can thrive; creating theatre that provokes, challenges the establishment to change their perception of young person’s theatre and embeds positive social change. It’s a radical concept, but Warts and All Theatre won’t stop, and plans to continue creating extraordinary theatre, in unexpected places. #speakyourtruth
