Through its workshops & activities, GIRL provides educational & social enrichment opportunities & positive role models so girls can feel confident in themselves & supported in achieving their dreams. Since 2010, GIRL has accomplished the following: -Conducted career field trips to Exxon Mobil, The White House, McKissack & McKissack architecture & engineering firm, & WJLA/ABC 7 -Presented 3 Annual Career Conferences: - A Spotlight on STEM sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard - 2011 - Career & Empowerment Conference in partnership with George Mason University Women & Gender Studies Center - 2013 - Career Conference: Careers of the 21st Century sponsored by Hewlett Packard - 2014 -Partnered with GMU College of Science STEM Accelerator Program to create F.O.C.U.S. (Females of Color Underrepresented in STEM) - a week-long summer camp for middle school girls -Partnered with The SheEO® Academy to offer scholarships for girls to attend Camp She EO, which is designed to expose girls ages 8-16 to business, entrepreneurship, finances, and goal-setting -Hosted monthly workshops on preparation for college and careers, leadership development, healthy relationships, health and fitness, positive self-esteem, entrepreneurship, & social etiquette -Published a book, Pearls of Wisdom for Girls by Girls, in which the girls expressed their creativity & feelings about their dreams, career interests, & self-confidence -Performed community service projects of collecting and donating holiday food baskets, making Christmas cards for residents of a local nursing home, and preparing care packages for young survivors of human trafficking -On September 20, 2014, Fairfax City Council declared GIRL, Inc. Day in the City of Fairfax.
