FOUNDATION TAMAR
www.foundationtamar.orgOur Story Founded in 2015 by survivor and humanitarian Rachael Lasamba, The Foundation Tamar (Not-For-Profit) Organisation has been relentlessly working with girls and women survivors of Sexual Violence specifically in the United Kingdom (UK) and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The organisation name Foundation Tamar – Tamar of Hebrew origin meaning Palm Tree was chosen with the intent to empower girls and women survivors of rape and sexual violence to heal, stand strong and stand tall, similar to palm trees. Starting out first as an online campaign in 2015 to raise awareness on the global issue and encourage women to share their stories of abuse, Rachael Lasamba did not yet comprehend the impact that was going to be made and the domino effect that was going to unfold through the twitter campaign – ‘Stand Strong, Stand Tall’ (SSST). In response to this campaign, many women across the globe came forward and shared their stories of abuse which then led Rachael to create Foundation Tamar, allowing women to use the website as a platform to heal through storytelling. Further down the line, Foundation Tamar began to run workshops, tour schools and university campuses within and outside of Europe speaking of Consent Culture along with Rachael sharing her own story as a survivor whilst collaborating with other organisations to make radical change. Fast forward to 2018, Foundation Tamar is no longer running by the works of one woman but by a dedicated, passionate team of professionals and volunteers – empowered to make change. Our mission To help women and girls transition from surviving to thriving whilst serving as advocates for the voices of those unheard - empowering people globally through social change and education to join us in eradicating all forms of sexual violence.
