We go beyond the classroom. Education is the greatest equalizer, but basic education is not enough to pull children out of the depths of generational poverty. For change to take root, we need to systematically address environmental factors that keep underprivileged children tied down in poverty: lack of proper schooling, poor nutrition, domestic violence, exposure to crime, access to drugs, and a paucity of success stories to inspire change. In addition, we must also change children’s own attitudes about their lives: lack of confidence and a generational resignation to fate.
