LIMBS International
www.limbsinternational.orgDescription of Need: There are approximately 40 million amputees in the developing world. 95% lack access to prosthetic devices or assistance. Every year, there are 1 million new amputations – one every 30 seconds. (Source: World Health Organization). Most of these amputees only earn only $2-5 per day and cannot afford a prosthetic leg, pay for a prosthetist or the rehabilitation they desperately need. Organization Mission: LIMBS International, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) humanitarian organization, engages communities and transforms lives through affordable, sustainable prosthetic solutions – for above-knee (AK) and below-knee (BK) amputees – and holistic rehabilitation services in the developing world. LIMBS believes that every individual – regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, economic status, or nationality – deserves love, compassion, respect, and the opportunity to become a productive member of society. LIMBS is the only humanitarian organization that combines the development of affordable prosthetic technology with community-based rehabilitation. Currently, LIMBS has partnerships with clinics, hospitals and other humanitarian organizations in Mexico (Cuernavaca, Guadalara, Mexico City, Poza Rica and Oaxaca), El Salvadore, Columbia, Indonesia, Liberia and Costa Rica. LIMBS has its own independent staff (consisting mostly of volunteers), which includes Engineers, Prosthetists, Rehabilitation Specialists and other professionals. Recent Accomplishments: • GuideStar/Candid Platinum rating • Received the prestigious Drucker Prize for innovation (2019) • Selected to receive a $300,000 grant via the “Boeing Moves the World” employee well-being initiative to help hundreds of patients in India, Indonesia and Mexico (2018).
