The Sporting Goods Industry Association (SGIA) represents manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors of sporting goods in the UK. The Association brings together the power of the sports brands across many elements of sport for the benefit of the industry as a whole. The main aims of the SGIA are to: - Represent members as the unified voice of the sporting goods industry - Provide links for members to work with Government Partners, National Associations and Governing Bodies (Sport England, CSPN, CCPR, YST, afPE) - Lobby UK and European Government - Assist with the development of industry specifications - Work closely with UKTI to access funding for export opportunities - Hold industry seminars, think tanks and member networking events A major focus for SGIA in the coming years is to increase participation within sport in the UK. With the 2012 Olympics fast approaching there is a real need to ensure that the games are not just a great spectacle in London but that they also create a legacy in UK sport for many generations to come. Increased participation is beneficial to all concerned as ultimately the more people who participate in sport and physical activity will mean a stronger trade, continuous growth and a successful industry. London 2012 The SGIA operates under the wider umbrella of the Federation of Sports and Play Associations (FSPA), the national trade body responsiblefor representing 17 Associations and 400+ member companies within the sports and play industries.
