Our experienced network of foreign policy researchers is working pro bono to provide expert advice to Labour MPs and peers, from real-time reaction to global events to in-depth briefing on complex areas of foreign policy. We seek to expand Labour’s capacity to think about foreign policy, while complementing and bolstering the work of its frontbench team. We believe that it is in the UK’s democratic interests to have an Opposition that is sufficiently equipped and informed to hold the government to account on foreign policy. Labour has a proud record of engaging with the world beyond our borders. Previous Labour governments contributed to the establishment of the United Nations and NATO, facilitated independence for former colonies and have promoted peace and democracy around the world. The NDP views a robust foreign policy as central to Labour’s future: both as an effective Opposition and as a government-in-waiting. As the UK, outside of the European Union, redefines its relationships in an ever-changing world, it is essential that the Labour Party sets out a meaningful and compelling vision for Britain’s foreign policy in the 21st century.
