I hope we don’t have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that.“ We, HelioHeat, a high-tech startup from Offenburg, Germany, are right on tackling that immense source of power from the sun! We deliver key components for power plants and enable the supply of guaranteed and flexible renewable energy, such as electricity, industrial high-temperature process heat for e.g. steel production or low-temperature process heat for e.g. pasta production. Our key technology is a patented solar receiver for Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) plants, which utilizes small ceramic particles as the absorber medium of solar radiation. Compared to state-of-art molten salt technology, the particles can be heated up to 1000 °C enabling higher efficiencies and therefore potential cost reduction. Since the heated particles can be easily stored in insulated tanks, a 24/7 supply of either renewable electricity or industrial process heat is guaranteed.
