The Edgecombe County Public School System (ECPS) is located in a uniquely forward-thinking eastern North Carolina community filled with a rich history dating back to the days of George Washington. The 56,000 residents enjoy comfortable small-town living within an easy one-hour drive west to metro-Raleigh and a pleasant 2-hour drive east to the Outer Banks and the Atlantic Ocean. ECPS is committed to preparing young people for the future. High schools offer Advanced Placement and Honors programs, career-based academies, community college dual enrollment opportunities and much more. Our goal is to provide a well-educated and computer-literate work force prepared to function in 21st Century businesses and industries that are here now and in the future for Edgecombe County, the state of North Carolina, and the global economy. The district has 15 high quality schools with approximately 7,800 terrific students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. Local students are distributed among well maintained and recently renovated buildings that compose 3 traditional high schools, an Early College High School, 4 middle schools, 5 elementary schools, a combination school (grades 4-6) and an alternative school.
