A New Way of Working... The Bread and Butter Thing (TBBT) is about making everyday essentials in life more affordable for people in low income households. We do this through a membership scheme that offers regular provisions such as food and toiletries. We also aim to provide help for everyday, Bread and Butter Things such as debt, energy and mobile phones. People apply for membership through the community hubs we partner with. Hubs are projects that are already doing great work in the community. The hubs have really passionate, proactive and committed teams such as independent food banks, housing associations or community centres. TBBT is a new way of providing, regular support to people who cannot afford everyday essentials because of the poverty premiums they face simply because of their circumstances. This is not crisis intervention but a long term, regular supply of affordable, everyday essentials, building long term relationships within the community.
