The Ocala Police Department is comprised of 165 sworn law enforcement personnel, 75 non-sworn personnel and numerous volunteers. The City of Ocala is divided into two unique patrol districts, namely the East District and West District, which are commanded by Police Captains. Each district is sub-divided into five different patrol zones and staffed by patrol officers. Each district is assigned a Criminal Investigative Unit which investigates all property and white collar crimes that occur within the districts. Community policing represents a collaboration between law enforcement and the community to identify and solve community problems. Ocala Police Department’s Community Policing philosophy means all members of our community have ownership in our community’s problems and solutions. Your active participation and involvement is crucial. By voicing your concerns, contributing advice and information in open dialog with law enforcement, will allow us to focus law enforcement efforts where and when they are needed, for optimal results. A community that is involved is a community that has control. There are no community issues or problems that the community, as a whole, cannot collectively control, manage or eliminate. The City of Ocala is located in Northern Florida. The city has a total area of 38.63 square miles and a population of approximately 57,315 residents. Ocala is the seat of Marion County, and the principal city of the Ocala, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area, which has an estimated population of 337,362.
