River Collective
www.rivercollective.comThings you can do on River Collective: River Research (recreation): - users can research streamflows, dam storage/release, and snowpack levels for the purpose of planning trips out on the river. - users can read (& write - see "Observation Logging" below) reports from other river goers who have been fishing or floating at similar locations. - users can see conservation initiatives that are relevant to river sections that they care about and stay involved in the protection of waterways. -users can customize and download maps of river sections for reference on the water (don’t forget the waterproof case (; ) Observation Logging: - users can log trip reports via an interactive map of the river network. - Boating users can designate things such as river stretches, rapids, campgrounds, POIs, and launches. - Fishing users can log fish counts, fishing material (flys, rods, etc), locations (if you so choose), and descriptions of their trips to be shared with others, or kept private for journaling purposes. -River Collective uses tools such as report up/down voting and flagging to allow our community to correct any misleading or errant commentary within the site. River Research (the serious kind): - researchers can access river collective data via API - Data of interest such as fish counts, river traffic, and relevant water quality observations are housed in machine readable and easily parsable formats for retrieval - General water data that can be received through public USGS, USBR, and NRCS, can also be pulled via API for specific river networks. (think NLDI, but the back trace returns upstream assets such as reservoirs, snowpacks, municipalities, etc) Feature Editing: - We encourage our users to participate in the improvement and monitoring of our river network data. If a user elects to be an editor, we give you the ability to suggest edits to things such as river geometry, questionable point locations (for things like launches, rapids, and facilities), and the like.
