MISSION Streetlamp is a non-profit, ensemble based theatre company. Our mission is to gather artists who collaborate with residents of South Los Angeles, to make theatre that inspires creativity and community engagement. HISTORY During the summer of 2005, Jenny Hall began weekly art classes on the porch of her house on Leighton Avenue in South Los Angeles. Three kids attended the first week and by the end of the summer there were over twenty kids clamoring around her yard. The energy, joy and safe environment created by those classes was the genesis of Streetlamp Studio. In the fall of 2006, a small group of actors who both lived and worked in the inner city of South LA were compelled by a vision to create theatre alongside a community of people who typically don’t have access to it. That year Streetlamp launched two youth productions that have become annual events and one original play. All three shows integrated both community members of South LA as well as professionals actors. This collaborative experience of living life with people and making art together is the heart beat of Streetlamp Studio.
