The Danbury Westerners are the oldest team in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), a summer wooden-bat league created in 1994 to further develop the skills of collegiate baseball players throughtout the country. The 14 team league plays 44 games in six states over approximately 8 weeks, followed by playoffs. The mission of the Danbury Westerners is to provide Major League Baseball-supported summer professional development baseball entertainment in the Greater Danbury CT and NY area to enhance social and economic development and add value to the quality of summer living and vacationing throughout the region. Funded in part by Major League Baseball, in 2023 the Danbury Westerners celebrate 28 years in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. To date 26 former Danbury Westerners have made the Major Leagues, and 39 former Westerners were playing professional baseball in 2022. The Danbury Westerners are an all-volunteer, non-profit 501c(3) organization. The Westerners rely on the generosity of their sponsors through tax deductible donations. The Danbury Westerners are truly a community partnership, as their home games honor different not-for- profit organizations such as The Jimmy Fund, American Red Cross and Ann's Place- the Home of I CAN. We are always in need of Board members, volunteers and host families. Internships are also available. Please visit www.danburywesterners.com or contact [email protected] for additional information.
