Transport North East provides transport strategy, planning and delivery services for North East England. Our vision is: "Moving to a green, healthy, dynamic and thriving North East". We work for the North East Joint Transport Committee (NEJTC) which brings together the two Combined Authorities which have statutory transport powers for the area: * the North East Combined Authority (covering Durham, Gateshead, Sunderland and South Tyneside), and * the North of Tyne Combined Authority (covering Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland). Our services include: * the Transport Strategy Unit which prepared the North East Transport Plan for the JTC and develops policy options; * Nexus which is the PTE for Tyne and Wear, and owns and operates the Tyne and Wear Metro, the Shields Ferry, bus stations and shelters, and information and ticketing services across the area; * The Tyne Tunnels which carry vehicles through a road tunnel on the A19 highway, and a pedestrian/cycling tunnel that has recently been refurbished; * The North East Rail Management Unit which provides a local focus on our region's rail services by bringing together local authorities throughout the area with with rail operators and Network Rail; * Our region's input into Transport for the North; and * Numerous other activities including analysis, appraisal, monitoring, briefing, partnership working, and the delivery of sustainable transport projects.
