The Crewel Work Company is a family business launched over 25 years ago by embroidery specialist Phillipa Turnbull FSA (Scot). Phillipa and her daughter Laura share a passion for historic embroidery and for keeping the designs and techniques from the past alive and thriving. Their range of historically-accurate kits and life-changing Needlework Retreats in the UK and Ireland are hailed as among the best needlework experiences available. "We take seriously the integrity of hand embroidery as an art form equal to any other. It's deep and direct connection to the past is a source of constant inspiration as we forge new connections with embroiderers all over the world. Our aim is to derive happiness and enjoyment from needlework through shared experience and to ensure it survives for the next generation" Phillipa & Laura Phillipa and Laura’s ongoing research in to historic embroidery allows them to bring you textile information from the historic source, including stitches and techniques long forgotten by current needlework stitch books. As such, their range of crewel work kits bring to life the designs, colours and techniques of the 17th to the 20th centuries, while honouring the integrity of genuine crewel work. As well as developing their Kits and Retreats, Phillipa and Laura work with castles, country houses and museums around Britain to ensure precious private embroidery collections are understood and appreciated by fellow enthusiasts.
