THE MISSION of the Miami Girls Foundation is to promote a long-term social change in South Florida by engaging, educating and empowering Miami women. In the span of 30 years Miami has become a top-tier global city. Despite the rapid growth, popular perception of modern Miami and its social appraisal has not kept up with the city’s transformation. As a result, many aspiring young women living in Miami hesitate to self-identify as a “Miami girl.” Reflected in the prevalent image of the “Miami girl,” who is devoid of intellectual power, promiscuous, shallow in her preoccupation with outer beauty and material stuff, are some of the strongest negative misconceptions the city and women living in it continue to deal with today. MIAMI GIRLS FOUNDATION will ENGAGE Miami women in a conversation questioning standing negative perceptions of the “Miami girl” and defining what being a “Miami girl” really means to them. EDUCATE the public through many voices of Miami women about the city’s great potential and the importance of investing into solving its problems. EMPOWER Miami women to find inspiration in shaping the city’s better future.
