Action Damien - Damiaanactie
www.actiondamien.beDamien Foundation is a Belgian medical non-profit organisation that works to assist people who have leprosy, tuberculosis or other diseases that particularly affect the most vulnerable communities around the world. We actively screen patients, often in the most remote regions of the world. We help them recover and provide essential socio-economic support for the most vulnerable. We are also involved in scientific research, raising public awareness, fighting against the stigmatisation associated with these diseases, and training local staff. Damien Foundation has over a thousand employees. In Belgium, but mainly in Africa, in Asia and in Latin America. 99% of our staff is local. They know their country like no other and can teach us a lot. We act independently and take a long-term approach in our work. Nevertheless, we pass the baton on to the local teams as soon as they have the knowledge and resources needed to meaningfully tackle these diseases. Damien Foundation is supported by thousands of workers around the world and many more volunteers, donors and sympathisers. Our mission? To rid the world of leprosy, tuberculosis and leishmaniasis. To do that, we provide medical care, actively seek out patients, raise public awareness, provide information, reintegrate patients in society and provide the means needed to achieve our goals.
