For decades Tuckahoe Montessori School has been committed to helping students create lifelong connections between learning, deep concentration, and happiness. Here, teachers use the Montessori method to tap the natural curiosity of children and to foster their development through these exciting years, all in a warm and welcoming environment. The developmental stages from birth through elementary school are incredibly dynamic and as a school we support students and their families during this period of rapid change. The TMS education experience is not limited to the Montessori work in the classrooms. During a typical week students may take a nature walk or venture to the James River for a field study. Friends might tend the school’s vegetable patch, play soccer, tumble and roll in gymnastics, discover new languages, make music, and enjoy the playground. All this activity still rests on the philosophical underpinnings of the classroom: curiosity, courtesy, and the happiness that deeper understanding can bring. The work inside and outside of the classroom provides the intellectual, social, and emotional tools that allow children to confidently approach life and learning far beyond their years at TMS.
