Women in the Fire Service UK
www.wfs.org.ukWomen in the Fire Service UK (WFS) is a volunteer-led, non-profit organisation, supported and funded through membership. Our vision is a society where women and girls are empowered to realise a career in the Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) and to reach their full potential. We spread a message that a career in the FRS is for everyone. Our experience shows that recruitment, retainment, and progression of women in the FRS is a challenge. In response, we work with Fire and Rescue Services to advance equality and address the gender imbalance. In the 1990s we set up the self-help group Networking Women in the Fire Service. Today we are well-known in the industry for our training and development events and working with the Fire Service College. We provide training and development; careers advice; coaching/mentoring; a jobs portal; and speakers for schools, careers fairs, and events. The organisation is managed by a Board of Directors and led by Chair, Julie (Jules) King, Assistant Director for People Services with East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service. Our National Executive Committee is composed of representatives from the UK FRS.
