www.puertadeorodecolombia.comWHO WE ARE We are Puerta de Oro de Colombia (The Golden Gate of Colombia), a folk dance group composed by enthusiastic Latinos living in South Florida wanting to show the richness of Colombia’s folklore. OUR MISSION Since 2008 we are working on the mission " Rompiendo Fronteras” (breaking boundaries) because we want to proof that there are no geographical or personal barriers to show with pride a culture and its traditions. CARNIVAL OF BARRANQUILLA We have emphasized in the folklore of the northern coast of Colombia especially in the Carnival of Barranquilla, proclaimed by The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Also because this carnival shows the combination of races, which is the perfect example of our Hispanic Heritage. HISPANIC HERITAGE We continuously participate in the celebration of the Hispanic Heritage Month, giving the South Florida audience the opportunity to appreciate our extensive cultural and folkloric diversity. Within our events and activities, we include the Miami-Dade Public Library workshops where the audience can learn the history of the most important folk dances like the Cumbia, in addition to the distinctive characters of Carnival of Barranquilla and their participation in the history. Furthermore, we create an interactive engagement with the audience to practice our dances and play the traditional instruments of this Colombian region.
