Combat Robotics at Cornell
combatrobotics.engineering.cornell.eduWelcome to Combat Robotics at Cornell, a fourth-year robotics team at Cornell University! We believe that working in a collaborative, supportive environment on a robotics team can help students grow as both engineers and leaders of the future. Founded in 2019, we are now 30+ members strong. Our hope is to provide an outlet for students to engage with hands-on experience in mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering, in addition to media, marketing and business. Our team is composed of 4 subteams: Kinetic, Sportsman, Business and Media, and Firmware. Each year, our Kinetic subteam designs and manufactures a high-kinetic-energy combat robot while our Sportsman subteam creates a low-kinetic-energy bot. For reference, a high-kinetic energy robot typically relies on damage and durability while a low-kinetic-energy robot relies on strategy and creative design. In the spring, both types of robots compete in a series of 3-minute battles as part of a combat elimination tournament (similar to the TV show, BattleBots). Our Firmware subteam works on autonomous capabilities for the end-of-year showcase. Over the course of the academic year, members develop software and implement electrical connections for robots assembled by the Sportsman and Kinetic subteams. Lastly, none of this would be possible without the help of our Marketing subteam. Members help secure funding, maintain corporate relations, and design merchandise. Be sure to check out our website (see link above) and other social media platforms (Instagram @combatroboticscornell and TikTok @combatroboticsatcornell). If you are interested in sponsoring us, joining the team, or simply learning more about us, feel free to reach out!
