TiTaMED is an engineering and manufacturing company established in Cape Town, South Africa in 1996. We specialize in high precision engineering with exotic materials such as titanium, invar, stainless steels, nitronic, aluminium and high performance polymers. We hold international certifications to manufacture in the specialized controlled fields of implantable medical devices (ISO13485 & Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC), aerospace and aviation manufacture (AS9100 RevD) and general non-specialized manufacture (ISO9001). Ti-TAMED was founded in 1996 when the company designed and developed a locally made Spinal Screw Implant System. The aim was to help make spinal surgery more affordable to patients and more easy to use for surgeons and theatre staff in South Africa; as well as to prove that these manufacturing skills and abilities were achievable in this country. This system now bears the CE mark, has FDA 510(k) approval and has an international patent. Our medical experience, certification and set-up, which are unaffordable to many smaller start-up medical R&D companies in South Africa, have made us a significant player in the medical prototyping and development sector, especially in the Western Cape. We are collaborating with universities and private companies to develop medical devices in the areas of heart valve replacements, partial limb replacements and facial bone reconstruction after cancer surgery, spinal surgery, prosthetic hands, breast cancer detection, and the like. Ti-TAMED is also collaborating with companies to complete products that are produced through 3D rapid prototyping. Ti-TaMED has designed its own patented CE and FDA accredited spinal system that allows for general spinal fusions and a unique scoliosis correction technique.
