Rutgers SEBS has its roots in science-based agricultural education. Today the school has evolved into a center of teaching and research covering “organisms to ecosystems.” In line with Rutgers University's strong land-grant tradition, faculty members from the school pursue mission-based teaching, research, and outreach that address real-world problems, and encourage students to adopt the same mission-based approach to their educational experience at Rutgers. The school's undergraduate programs are designed to promote the multidisciplinary study of challenges facing society in areas that cover the biological spectrum from organisms to ecosystems, with an equal emphasis on the social and human dimensions of these challenges. Twenty-five bachelor's degree programs, many with areas of further concentration, are available to the school's undergraduates.
