The Saving Limbs Foundation (SLF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing education and assistance to people who are suffering from the debilitating effects of peripheral arterial disease (PAD). SLF's goal is to address the lack of awareness and understanding of treatment options that are available to help in combating this vascular disease. Millions of people unknowingly suffer from symptoms or condone risk factors that can lead to bypass surgery or amputation from the complications of PAD. The CDC estimates that only 25% of this disease’s population are aware of the risks associated with undiagnosed PAD. Even worse, many patients are told that amputation is the only way to alleviate the pain and daily debilitation this disease causes. This is due, in part, to patients and/or doctors ignoring/misdiagnosing the symptoms and because many patients do not consult with a team of vascular specialists before agreeing to an amputation. Thus, we envision a limb salvaging patient experience that answers questions about the disease and its symptoms as quickly as possible, in real-time and readily available. We know that assessing the symptoms at their onset can lead to proper diagnoses and better treatment options; safeguarding and oftentimes preventing the issue worsening.
