Mission NREM integrates natural and social sciences to educate students and global citizens, research solutions, and extends information for sustainable use and management of natural resources and the environment. Overview of the Department The NREM department emphasizes the science and management of natural resources and their links to environmental quality. We offer degrees at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including a Bachelor's of Science (BS), Master's of Science (MS), Master's of Environmental Management (MEM), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Student learning outcomes include an appreciation of the value of science as the empirical basis of sound management decisions, the ability to integrate natural and social science disciplines in managing complex social-ecological systems, and the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to succeed as a professional. Our faculty also engage in important research to address real-world concerns and outreach & extension to support a diverse body of stakeholders, including private producers and land managers, government agencies, non-profits, local community groups, and the broader profession of natural resource science and practice.
