The Human Genetics Society of Australasia was formed in 1977, and is the preeminent professional organisation in the region, representing our interests in human genetics to law makers, accreditation bodies, and the Australasian public. Our vision is to ensure safe and expert genetic health for all people, from bench to bedside. Rapidly evolving diagnostic technologies are providing ever more affordable and accessible genomic testing. Our challenges are to remain on top of leading edge genomic research and to translate this to mainstream testing which can be delivered in a way which is safe, ethical and equitable. The HGSA is the home of the following Special Interest Groups: - AUSTRALASIAN SOCIETY OF GENETIC COUNSELLORS (ASGC) - AUSTRALASIAN SOCIETY OF DIAGNOSTIC GENOMICS - AUSTRALASIAN SOCIETY FOR INBORN ERRORS OF METABOLISM - CANCER GENETICS SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP - AUSTRALASIAN ASSOCIATION OF CLINICAL GENETICISTS We are a full member of the International Federation of Human Genetics Societies and domestically we work closely with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia as well as other groups through the Pathology Associations Council.
