Alaska Kidney Patients Association
www.alaskakidney.orgThe Alaska Kidney Patients Association is committed to support, education and advocacy for kidney patients and their families, public education, increasing organ donation, and the prevention of kidney disease in Alaska. Since 1999, the Alaska Kidney Patients Association (AKPA) has been providing the kidney patients of Alaska with support, education, and advocacy through annual patient education symposiums, quarterly newsletters, and support groups. In addition to those programs which are still going strong, we have added: recording the Kidney Education Symposium for mailing to kidney patients across the state, the AKPA website is packed with education and resources targeted at kidneys and also organ donation and transplantation, cooking class for dialysis patients, workshops for stage 3 and 4 kidney patients, workshops/mentors for transplant candidates and living kidney donors, kidney advocacy with legislatures in Juneau, advocating with the Alaskan delegation in Washington DC, using our facebook page to provide kidney and organ donation/transplantation facts, community presentations and participation in various forums and venues to provide kidney education to the general public, and the preparation for the first AKPA kidney screening later this year.
