The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders are members of the United States Hockey League, the only Tier 1 Hockey League in the United States. Our players, ages 16-20 years of age, come from all over the world for the opportunity to earn a scholarship to play college hockey. Additionally and of equal importance is they are working towards being better people as well. The team plays a 60 game schedule from September through April which includes a preseason and postseason. The RoughRiders were founded in 1999 after being formerly known as the North Iowa Huskies out of Mason City, Iowa. Their Head Coach and General Manager Mark Carlson, is the only coach in the teams history. He has been voted USHL Coach of the Year during the 2004-2005, 2010-2011 and 2015-2016 seasons. The RoughRiders play at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa which is better known at "The Stable". "The Stable" is a 4300 seat facility located at 1100 Rockford Road SW in Cedar Rapids. The players are amateurs and therefore, unpaid. They live with local billet families who house the players during the season and provide them with food, shelter and other daily needs. The team is a three-time winner of the Anderson Cup for the regular season best record, winning in 2004-2005 (shared with Omaha Lancers), 2010-2011 and 2015-2016.
