Oban Live
www.obanlive.comOBAN LIVE - JUNE 8/9 - MOSSFIELD STADIUM, OBAN Oban Live is the new kid on the block that’s standing out on Scotland’s list of impressive events. It immediately became the biggest open-air live music concert in rural Argyll in its first year in 2016. We’ve entertained almost 8,000 visitors each year (7,770 in 2016, 7,837 in 2017) with traditional Scottish and Celtic rock music. Picture thousands of visitors and natives coming together for one massive cultural party in a truly authentic, welcoming Scottish location, famously known for its music, seafood, history & heritage, whisky and accessible “gateway” to the Isles – Oban, of course. The event’s impact, popularity and significant boost to the local economy (£1.39million in 2017), over a non-holiday weekend (June 8/9 in 2018), has clearly demonstrated our aim to make Oban, a rural town of 8,100 people, a key destination for major events. Our Oban Live Fringe, Oban Unsigned band competition, High School work experience, university internship and volunteer programmes positively integrates the event with the local community. It all began in 2015 when 6,000 people came to celebrate 10 years of Argyll-born trad-fusion band Skerryvore at their concert ‘Decade’. 98% said they wanted it to return annually and so Oban Live was created. Trad-favourites, such as Skerryvore, Skipinnish, Manran and We Banjo 3, have graced the Oban Live stage as well as international superstars including KT Tunstall (2016), Hue And Cry (2017) and Toploader (2017). Hermitage Green, Skerryvore, Skipinnish, Heron Valley, Blazin' Fiddles and Oban High School Pipe Band are confirmed so far for 2018 with many more still to be announced. Stay tuned for more news.
