The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is the leading global youth development organisation bringing life skills to millions of youth around the world. The Award is a non-competitive, self-development program for youth aged 14 and 24. The Award is an activity or project based non-formal education program which enables young people to develop a skill, a physical activity, volunteer in their community and participate in an expedition. The program is flexible in that participants get to select what they want to focus on (including extending themselves in the activities and interests already being undertaken), and provides the structure, support and the end goal of receiving the award which is recognised worldwide. The Award not only equips participants with new skills, but confidence and the ability to work towards goals. The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award was founded in the United Kingdom in 1956 by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Today, The Award is running in 130 countries globally and 8 million young people have achieved and benefited from The Award. The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is available in Australia through over 1,200 schools, youth groups, clubs and community organisations throughout Australia.
