Monica Korpershoek Clinical Psychologist Clinical Supervisor
www.monicakorpershoekpsychology.com.auI am a Clinical Psychologist with a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology and a Masters of Philosophy in Child Psychiatry (Cape Town, South Africa). I have 27 years clinical experience working in: Private Sector; Public Child and Youth Mental Health Sector; Hospital and Inpatient settings. I have held Leadership positions in Child and Youth Mental Health Services in the UK and Australia. I work with individuals experiencing a range of emotional, social and relational issues, including: depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, relationship difficulties, separation and divorce, post-natal depression, parenting issues and work-related stress. I am trained and experienced in: Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Attachment-Based approaches. I am an accredited practitioner with the British Psychoanalytic Council in Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT). DIT is a short-term Evidenced Based treatment for anxiety and depression. My underlying philosophy is that our earliest relationships impact on our perceptions of self and others. This results in in unconscious assumptions and expectations in current relationships, contributing to a pattern of relating which creates and maintains clinical issues. Therapy helps individuals to identify relational patterns causing distress, gain insight into their thoughts, feelings and behaviours and handle interpersonal situations differently. I am experienced in supervision, teaching and training. I currently supervise a range of mental health professionals working in the private and public sector. I work part-time as a Practice Development Clinician at the Alfred Hospital, providing education and training in mental health. I am humbled and privileged by the work that I do and am constantly learning from the people I work with. I am amazed at the resilience of the human spirit.
