The mission of the CISE Department is to educate students, as well as the broader campus community, in the fundamental concepts of the computing discipline; to create and disseminate computing knowledge and technology; and to use expertise in computing to help society solve problems. Collectively, the list of achievements and awards received by the department’s 50 faculty include 17 NSF Career Award winners; six IEEE Fellows; three ACM Fellows; three AAAS Fellows; one IEEE Computer Society Taylor L. Booth Education Award; one IEEE Computer Society W. Wallace-McDowell Award; and one ACM Karl Karlstrom Outstanding Educator Award. CISE researchers study the theory, design, development and application of computer systems and information processing techniques.
