Habitat for Humanity Bangladesh
www.habitatbangladesh.orgHabitat for Humanity Bangladesh is a non-government organization committed to achieving adequate shelter for all by building diverse, cost-efficient housing solutions. Since 1999 we have served around 17,550 low-income Bangladeshi families who have partnered with Habitat to improve their housing, water and sanitation, and living conditions. This represents around 96,900 people who have also received training in micro-finance, safe water and sanitation, appropriate construction technology, and disaster response and mitigation, and various income-generating trades. Home to nearly 163 million people, Bangladesh is among the most populous countries in the world with more than 1,200 people packed into every square kilometer. According to a World Bank study, the capital Dhaka is rapidly growing, drawing in an estimated 300,000 to 400,000 poor migrants every year to provide key labor for the city’s industries and services. Bangladesh is also one of the poorest countries in the world. 4 out of every 10 people live below the national poverty line, according to government data on income, consumption, and ability to meet basic human needs. Despite recent socio-economic advances, 24.3% of people in Bangladesh live below the poverty line. Habitat Bangladesh is committed to impacting lives by improving living conditions through innovative construction technologies, home renovation, advocacy, promotion of water and sanitation facilities, and supporting disaster mitigation and response efforts. Habitat Bangladesh currently operates in the Dhaka district (City corporation area) and the districts of Mymensing, Jamalpur, Patuakhali, Satkhira, Pirojpur, and Kurigram.
