Direct Action Fitness incorporates routines such as High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), Olympic Weightlifting, Plyometrics, Powerlifting, Gymnastics, Calisthenics, and Strongman exercises. The difference between Direct Action Fitness and other fitness modalities is its sense of community and the use of functional fitness. Unlike working out in a typical conventional gym where you are an individual working within a group or running on a treadmill by yourself, Direct Action Fitness encourages camaraderie and group engagement that can extend beyond the gym doors. It is a community, or better yet, a family. Direct Action is a military term that means the following: "Short-duration strikes and other small-scale offensive actions conducted as a special operation in hostile, denied, or politically sensitive environments and which employ specialized military capabilities to seize, destroy, capture, exploit, recover, or damage designated targets. Direct action differs from conventional offensive actions in the level of physical and political risk, operational techniques, and the degree of discriminate and precise use of force to achieve specific objectives." The name, Direct Action Fitness, was chosen because it has an analogical similarity between the processes that CrossFit Direct Action members endure when preparing to workout and what Green Berets go through when preparing for their "Direct Action".
